There are hundreds of different firewalling products and tools available, yet still, the fight is being lost.

The bad guys know more about the weaknesses in our systems than we do, and the medicine we take to protect our networks, usually causes them to stop working.

Every corporation & every home user has the same need, we want to get on with our lives & not have to constantly worry about invading nerds & script kiddies

The Firewall Designer Tool (FDT) was developed to fulfill that need, it is not a magic bullet, but it is a start.

Abbotsbury Software Ltd. has been providing ISP and network consulting services for nearly 15 years, and the FDT tool has been created to address our own internal requirements and what we believe, is a wider market need.

As an ISP, the company has created one of the largest wireless based infrastructure networks in the UK, with a single local network spanning over a 100 miles. This network comprises well over a 100 routers with many points of access, all of which present opportunities for attack. The FDT tool was developed for our own internal purposes to document and manage the security policies for this network.

As a consultancy we have been providing training to many UK corporate & government agencies on the management and operation of networks, it is very obvious to us, how woefully inadequate the security is for many of these organisations. It is well known that defects in security policies can, if exploited by criminals result in corporate failure, death & destruction. FDT was developed to address this market need.
